Animal Theology

MAIN1

Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.  Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution.
Thomas Edison, inventor

Animal Theology is an integral part of Vegetarian Ethics, and we discern it to be our relationship and duty toward other species in the light of Godly principles.  In the world of religious thought there is an incredible diversity and controversy concerning our relationship with the animals and creation.  Though many books originating in the ancient past claim to be the revealed word of God, they also give commands concerning our animal and earthly responsibilities toward them for the time period long before scientific and agricultural progress brought us an abundance of food, in the light of this then, there is now as never before, a need for clear guidance on this matter, therefore Gods will for this time period must now be redefined.  We believe it now rests on humans to discern the underlying spirit behind their Holy books, and endeavour to comprehend the fundamental life principles contained within them, for if we can truly learn to respect the natural rights of other creatures, we may at long last have found the way to live up to the present day will of God.

Time and again the Holy Scriptures emphasize the quality of love.  Surely if love is really "loving" it must be proved thus by gestures of kindness, compassion, fellow feeling, affection, respect and consideration, to name just a few.  When talking about love, the Apostle Paul said that we should widen out in our tender affections, but how far should we go in this? just toward our own religion? our own race? our own species? or indeed toward other species also?   Vegetarian Ethics embraces these very principles in the purest form we know of.  All sincere vegetarians who keep to these ethics will take this to heart and do their best to embark on a uncorrupted lifestyle, by stripping off the old exploitive, inconsiderate, and violent personality and work at clothing themselves with the noble apparel of true compassion.

Reasons to believe we are accountable to God

THEEARTHWe live on a jewel in space, a wondrous planet, for there are so many things that should stir our appreciation, the great mountains and valleys, the incredibly rich Bird, Animal, Aquatic and Insect life, we have even been given the seemingly unique ability to appreciate these things. Consider this also, you are living, walking, and some are even sleeping on earth which is but a ball that is spinning in space at 66,000mph, yet you are not flung off because a masterly system of gravity has been installed for you, and while spinning at this great speed the earth has been tilted by 23.5 degrees so that all things may be refreshed and enjoy the diversity of seasons.

We also have a wondrous water cycle that draws up water by evaporation mainly from the sea, which then forms as clouds ( "just the vehicle to move water around" ) and which are then blown over onto the land to fall eventually as rain, enabling life to exist, for neither man, nor beast, nor any vegetation, can survive without water. Another powerful reason to believe in a creator is that the substance we call water is in fact the combination of two of the most explosive gases on earth, hydrogen and oxygen (H2o), yet it is harnessed and made harmless for our survival, such positive evidence for the existence of the great scientist ("God") can be a truly a mind-blowing revelation!. Finally after having now completed its task of quenching our thirsts the water then heads out on its way back down the streams, the rivers, and eventually the sea, for the cycle to begin over and over again, in fact when we drink a glass of water,  we may not realize it but it will have passed through the bodies of numerous dinosaurs and a myriad of other creatures over vast periods of time, before finally ending up in our glass ( and very nice it is too!). Water incredibly is responsible for between 50-90% of the body weight of all living organisms including us, and many see this is a truly masterful example of the scientific ability of the creator .  One holy book states that because of all this testimony to the creator that is evident in the natural world, it is therefore inexcusable for any reasoning person not to believe in the existence of such a supreme being .

Yet for all this beauty the world over, the reality of life is that we have been born into a self murdering natural system of things that preys on and parisitises one another, this is a paradox for many religious people, however such violence in the natural world is not for us to worry about, but perhaps it stands as a sign, even a test for us not to imitate.  When we reject the great life principles that have been handed down from our ancestors through the ages,  such as compassion, insight, respect, and understanding, then from our societies people like evil monsters arise, who  abuse animals, murder other humans, and start wars which can threaten the existence of all life on earth.

 Failure of Religion.

To note one reference, religion as a whole has failed to direct man in a manner that helps keep the environment conducive to all living beings, and has done little or nothing in the eyes of many to avert the looming environmental catastrophy, therefore we appeal to individuals within all religions to take to heart the pure vegetarian (vegan) path.   Certainly any spiritual man or woman in whatever religion they may have chosen will want to give serious consideration to anything which can help them to grow in some of the greater qualities that humans can exhibit i.e. compassion, kindness, respect, tolerance, and above all Love.  By doing this and living in harmony with all creation we can help alleviate the multitude of unnecessary sufferings in this life.

Are humans special?

We humans according to some peoples belief  are made in Gods image, and we do have a seemingly natural potential for good embeded within us, but the facts bear witness that we have not proved ourselves to be much of a truly spiritual race, surely we then are far more damnable than the innocent carnivorous beasts that have been physically locked into the life-taking cycle of violence and slaughter by the creator.

History testifies that humans have a long history of exploitation of others, firstly of the animals and latterly of our own kind (Human Slavery), each manifestation of abuse is usually accompanied by savagery, and we believe that we should continue to do our best to rid ourselves and society of this kind of sensless exploitation, so that it does not go on to poison succeeding generations, the reasons are clearly seen in the following images.

"As long as Man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love".

The tears of many oppressed, abused and robbed peoples have been accompanied by one word "WHY", why or how could fellowhumans do this to me ?  some are convinced that the answer is simple, it is basically because we humans have exploited and slaughtered other creatures for so long, that we have never given ourselves the opportunity to come to know the real meaning of compassion, therefore it is but a relatively small step toward killing each other.

We must remember though that on an planetary timescale it was only really this morning that we awoke and clawed our way out of the Stone Age, however mankind continues to think that the key to happiness is to become more and more technologically advanced. Have we really progressed toward being an enlightened civilisation, even with all of todays technology?.   Why?... when we can walk on the moon, talk to others on the other side of the earth and in space stations in the sky, are we still found to be slaughtering other living beings ( "the animals" ) unnecessarily?.   Psychologists have for a long time been aware of a positive connection between animal murder (slaughter) and that of humans toward oneanother. Considerable research was undertaken several years ago which has uncovered shocking evidence that before embarking on their evil course toward their fellow humans a factor became very evident in the study, that these violent individuals had usually started off by abusing animals first.

Meat: The True Cost?

It is a fact, that if we do not eat then we will die, but for the person that is seeking the creator and the Great Spirit behind all things they should think carefully before they eat, and never lose sight of the fact, that no meat product, be it Turkey, Chicken, Beef, Lamb or Pork can ever be obtained without an act of violence and murder having taken place first, can we really risk murdering other creatures when we have such healthy alternative sustenance?.  Also another worrying statistic that has come to light lately is the upsurge in the consumption of meat which many now acknowledge, is linked with an upsurge of all kinds of cancers, numerous scientific papers link this to the volume of meat that we consume, another author has voiced the opinion that such terrible diseases could even be God at work, ( Divine Retribution ).  We at Ulove do not personally accept that reasoning, but we do acknowledge the Biblical proverb that basically states that : "What we sow we reap" .

Our own worst Nightmare

What if?.

What if there are other more advanced life forms in the solar system, who are also carnivores. What if they decided one day to come on a hunting trip to our earth, how would they evaluate us?.  Rather than viewing the animals as a tasty food source, what if they had a preferance for eating human flesh and decided to set the animals free!, how would we feel about that?, would we not think that they are terrible monsters, who must be stopped at all costs?,   we humans are little different from such monsters!.

I am sure that when we humans drag screaming animals into our slaughterhouses and laboratories, then in the animals eyes we are certainly viewed as servants of the Devil himself!.  In reality we are as bad as we depict the worst monsters imaginable.

Professor Steven Hawking, made the statement recently that "mans future lies in the stars", how sad though that humans will only be taking exploitation, violence and murder there.  The inhumanity of wilfull and unecessary taking of life of other less powerful living beings will I am sure be spread throughout the universe as man continues in his relentless quest to explore outer space.

If other intelligent beings do exist in outer space, they may even choose to destroy us on site just as some humans would a dangerous insect, for humankind is arguably the greatest potential threat to the universe that exists!

We are going to need a radical change of heart to permeate our society and help balance our belief systems in this modern age, for only this will provide the motivating force to root out inhumane tendencies out of our secular and religious lives.

All considered we are convinced that we are living in the momentous time period, spoken of long ago by the ancestors, and that we are being closely inspected, for now, as in no other time period we have such healthy alternatives to consuming milk and meat set before us, and what a wonderful choice we have of becoming more compassionate and of causing no anxiety to other beings, let us not continue in woeful ignorance. This time is now seen by many as a milestone in our human existence, but will we personally ever opt for the compassionate choice, the one that the Holy books leads us toward and that can preserve life on our beautiful earth, only time will tell.  If mankind is really going to grow in love, understanding and wise stewardship of the earth, we must not shy away from the real facts of life, and the guilt that we bare of unnecessary planetary exploitation, the realization of this and the actions we take to right the wrongs will be a major factor in helping us personally to survive as a species. Search the web and you will see, ( but add this page to your desktop first!) yes see, just how many people are coming to the believe that we must learn from the mistakes of the past, and learn to respect the earth and live with harmony, compassion and understanding alongside the myriad of other creatures with which we should share this planet, and to which we are not superior, having the same force of life within them as we have.

Life we know, has not been as easy in the past as it is for the majority of mankind today, and as we look back through our history it is hard to imagine just what everyday existence must have been like in the ancient past.  Through the dark periods of mans history, archeology is able to offer some insight and reveals that it must have been almost unbearably hard and bitter. The religions that we humans have conceived have not found it easy either, these include not only the ancient animism of our ancestors, but the religions of all earths known history, which include the three great Abrahamic faiths that most of earths inhabitants adhere to, Christianity, Islam and Judaism. These have all had to personally battle to find a meaning for their own existence, and the reason for suffering and death, and each has searched to find out if indeed there is any afterlife for the faithful, however search and have faith as we may, we cannot be sure of anything at all, "except that suffering is real".  Many may say with powerful conviction that they have found genuine reason to hope within their faiths, but is there within the core essence of these faiths a sound basis for the expansion in our compassion and respect for other species as well ?, this is one of the main things we will explore as we examine the major religions.

Common ground with all living things.

We along with all living beings share much of the same sufferings, and this is the one common bond that unites us all.   We hate pain as the animals do, we hate being subjected to terror as the animals do, we fear death and love life and desire to go on living just as the animals also do, therefore although in a very different bodily form as dictated by nature or God, we are all in the same boat, should we not then rightly view other species with dignity and great respect?  Some of earths creatures are certainly very dangerous and poisonous, that is a known fact, but none so much so as humankind, we rob and rape the earth of its resources, poison the air and the seas and vegetation, and slaughter other living beings unnecessarily, often just to taste their flesh. Perhaps unique to us though, is that we humans desecrate other creatures habitats, and make the land unfit for numerous other native species to exist.  It is difficult to understand but some even carry this exploitation of the land in the full but mistaken belief that God has given us the authority to take as much as we want to from this world, but is this the real spirit behind the teachings of the founders of the major religions?, I believe not.

Of all the sufferings within creation, one main point stands out, that if "God the Creator" does exist then it is that one who initially created the suffering, terror and death we see in the natural around us, and that it has not resulted out of any "Devils" influence,  ( The Edenic Fall ) for all these sufferings were present in creation long before the appearance of Adam and Eve, and their fall into sin in the Garden of Eden, as depicted in the Bible book of Genesis.  Palaeontology and research into the skeletal remains of ancient extinct life forms reveals that disease, suffering, and death were even here long before the time of the Dinosaurs.

Testing of Humanity

The major Holy books inform us that we are being carefully observed and scrutinized, and I personally believe that this is true. All that a sincere person can do is act in their best conscience toward whatever the creator allows them to experience. The problem with the conscience is that it must be trained toward what is good, as this does not come naturally. We can allow our conscience to be molded by others, or we can learn what the great life principles are i.e. compassion, kindness, fellow-feeling, self control, generosity and love, then if we act in the light of these higher principles towards humans, animals or the planet, we will be acting rightly.

Judgement

Judgement of a human soul by animal faced gods before Osiris, the green god  (book of the dead circ 1310 bc)

We are now at what some describe as the pinnacle of human reasoning, and all kinds of religions have emerged, some for the good, some definitely for the bad, and all kinds of philosophies have been conceived for us to personally evaluate. We now have all this knowledge at our fingertips, so much so that if the ancestors were to come back to life on earth now and they looked around and saw our achievements we have made, and how we fly in our great metal birds ( planes) , would'nt they certainly sacrifice to us, thinking for all the world that the gods have become human, and had come down to them!. What have we done though with all this knowledge?, have we really used it wisely to the lasting benefit of others of all species?, or just our for ourselves?

A sobering thought for us all however, is the following quotation from one of the worlds most celebrated psychologists which confronts us with where we have come from, how we may view ourselves, but what human society itself has now become:

In the course of his development towards culture, man acquired a dominating position over his fellow creatures in the animal kingdom. Not content with this supremacy, however, he began to place a gulf between his nature and theirs. He denied the possession of reason to them, and to himself he attributed an immortal soul, and made claims to a divine descent which permitted him to annihilate the bond of community between him and the animal kingdom."–

      Sigmund Freud

Angelkilling

The religions of the earth are now called on to give evidence of the sincerity of their teachings, for a growing number of people who have studied human behaviour, such as the originator of the above quotation, have found them wanting, and they therefore refute many religious peoples assumption that they are Gods chosen ones. Many are also questioning other peoples assumptions that they have the God given right to plunder and exploit other creatures and their habitats to build more and more homes, and extract more and more resources from the earth.

If such self styled chosen ones do exist, and feel that they are being molded in Gods image as exclusively "Gods Children" then let them prove it by their fine works and fine stewardship toward all creatures, then all will see and recognize them as such.  Additionaly let those who claim to preach kindness, love, respect, appreciation, mildness, fellow feeling and consideration prove this not only in their places of worship, but in all their dealings in life, and particularly toward humans and other fellow living beings.

We believe, that only when people truly practice, and preach, the finest principles of what we as humans can exhibit, will the whole of creation truly and unitedly benefit.,
