             The Vegan Diet

The New World Diet

Some very famous people have described the pure vegetarian (Vegan) diet as "a path, a way of life, that will help make our planet a better place", and what a marvelous choice we humans have, for no other creature can understand the earths plight so much, and is able to make such a contribution to the welfare of all those on the planet. To eat from what is freely given us from the worlds larder and without the abuse and murder of other sentient beings is the way forward for those who desire to help make our planet a more compassionate and sustainable place to live.

It also our belief that such a diet will help reduce incidence of murder and violence among humans within our societies, for if we would not unnecessarly kill even the smallest creature how would we kill one another, it is a simple theory, "but one   in which we are entirely convinced".   This is not a new concept but one that originated with the ancesters who lived thousands of years ago, in the teachings of ancient philosophers, and also Leonardo De Vinci.

A healthy, pure vegetarian or (Vegan) diet is also an anti cancer diet, one that helps to keep the immune system healthy, to fight the pathogens that can sometimes cause this disastrous illness. Noone is completely safe from this ruthless killer though, especially when we have a genetic weakness toward it, but we can really do something positive to help keep it at bay, by adopting a wise diet of compassion.

Anti-cancer diet for the unborn Child

iStock_medWOMEN who eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and protein-rich foods well before pregnancy are less likely to have a baby with leukaemia.

The study is the first to relate a mother's overall diet, rather than specific supplements or foods, to her child's cancer risk.

Researchers compared the diets of 138 women whose children had leukaemia with controls. The higher the intake of vegetables, fruit and protein foods during the year before pregnancy, the lower the risk of having a child with leukaemia. Carrots, string beans and cantaloupe stood out as being the most protective.

"We're starting to see the importance of the prenatal environment, since the events that may lead to leukaemia are possibly initiated in utero," says co-author Patricia Buffler, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Berkeley. The report appears in this month's Cancer Causes & Control.

Says the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science)

iStock_strawberrychocOne of the better studies of diet and health is the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer (EPIC), which looks at the eating habits of over half a million people in 10 European countries. Kay-Tee Khaw of Cambridge University reported that the EPIC study has so far shown that eating a high-fibre diet is associated with around a 40 per cent reduction incidence in bowel cancer. Fish also seems to have a protective effect. Red and processed meats however, are associated with an increase in bowel cancer.

But it’s not just cancer. The study results suggest that if you aren’t getting your recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, then perhaps you should think about it. Professor Khaw says of an analysis of men and women from the Norfolk area: "Every increase of one serving of fruits and vegetables per day equates to a 15 per cent reduction in all cause mortality"...
